David Sadler was at his best in defence, but he performed very well also in midfield. This versatility added to his value. His best side was his character: everyone was astonished by his coolness in the face of almost anything, on and off the pitch. When he was in defence his fine touch, experienced passing and intelligence seemed to take over the game and came into their own. Some people say that his character prevented him from reaching the very top spot, which could be true.
