About Roger Byrne Birthplace :8/2/29 in Manchester Height : 5ft 11 Weight : 12st 10 Position : Defenders
Roger Byrne was one of the most accomplished defenders of British footballing history. Looking at the quality of his footballing attributes he could sound one of many average defenders, but see him in action and he was a master. He had a style of his own, which defied any logic. He made his debut in 1951 in the away match with Liverpool. He impressed so much that he kept his position until nearly the end of the season. He played as a left full-back for most of his career, which is itself an example of his own style. He was right footed but he played on the left-hand side; he was a full-back, but he scored seven goals in six games. He was also gifted with a rare speed both mental and physical and a cool reading of the game nearly anticipating every opponent's move. He was truly a legend, one who cannot be compared with anyone. He was in a class of his own beyond distinction. He would have stood out clear among any company in any era. Sadly he was another of the victims of the Munich air disaster which decimated British football.
